Court Setup

Use the standard Typti court setup.

Typti uses the same court dimensions and net as pickleball, with its own racket, ball, rally rules, and scoring system.

Court Surface

Play on a standard 20 × 44 ft pickleball court with a standard pickleball net.

Equipment

Use one strung Typti racket per player and a 3.5-inch channeled foam ball.

Play Space

Use the existing pickleball lines. The kitchen line sets serve depth but is not a no-volley zone.

Goal

Use Stakes scoring: win three rallies in a row to win one game.

Basic Rules

How a Typti rally works.

Start with the serve and mandatory first two bounces, then use the full court, body-play rule, and net-rebound save.

  1. Serve underhand from behind the baseline. Contact the ball below the belly button and serve diagonally beyond the kitchen line. Only one serve attempt is allowed.

  2. The serve must bounce once, and the return must also bounce once.

  3. After the first two bounces, players may volley from anywhere on the court. There is no kitchen restriction.

  4. The ball may be returned with the racket or any part of the body.

  5. If the ball hits the net and rebounds to your side, it may still be saved with your body or a non-string part of the racket before the rally ends.

  6. Use Stakes scoring: win three rallies in a row to win a game. A set is normally first to five games.

Scoring

Use Stakes scoring.

The score tracks the current winning streak from the server's perspective. Up belongs to the server, Down belongs to the receiver, and three consecutive rally wins take the game.

Server wins the first rally in a streak1-Up
Server wins the second rally in a streak2-Up
Receiver begins a new winning streak1-Down
Either side wins a third consecutive rallyGame
Beginner Tips

Learn the signature rules one step at a time.

Practice the serve and two-bounce start first, then add Stakes scoring, body play, and the net-rebound save.

Practice the underhand diagonal serve before keeping score.

Let both the serve and the return bounce before anyone volleys.

Call the score from the server's perspective before every serve.

Learn the body-play and net-rebound rules slowly before using them at full speed.

Typti Rules FAQ

Do you need a pickleball court?

A full Typti game uses a standard pickleball court and net. Other safe flat spaces can be used for hitting practice, but they are not the standard match setup.

Does Typti have a kitchen restriction?

No. The kitchen line sets the minimum serve depth. After the serve and return have each bounced once, players may volley from anywhere on the court.

How do you win a Typti game?

Win three rallies in a row. The score moves through 1-Up or 1-Down, then 2-Up or 2-Down, before the third consecutive win takes the game. A set is normally first to five games.

What if the ball hits the net and comes back?

The rally can continue. Before the rally ends, save the ball using your body or a non-string part of the racket. The string bed cannot be used for this extra net-rebound save.
